OP-Core Device by Core Prognostex
Clinically transparent method of tissue acquisition and transport management
The OP-Core Device, is a stereotactic tissue acquisition device for use at the time of surgery. The surgical specimen is placed ex-vivo in the device and core needle samples are acquired, guided by a radiograph of the tissue in the device. A radiopaque grid assists the operator in obtaining precise location of the tumor within the excised specimen. Location of the tumor may also be accomplished by use of ultrasound.
A Sono-Core disc replaces the radiopaque grid disc in the device. This allows the ultra sound head to contact the stabilized tissue locating tumor. Core needle samples are then acquired. Either technique has been shown to significantly facilitate successful tumor tissue acquisition and improve user safety.
The OP-Core device is a specially designed container that fixes the resected specimen in precise orientation. The container also can be used for specimen submission to pathology after placement in a sealed bag. The design of the device also allows for effective tumor tissue acquisition without image guidance.
A critical component of all biomarker assays is the requirement of fresh (ideally) or preserved tumor tissue specimens. Sample preparation covers the spectrum from tissues to cells to molecules. Uniform acquisition and handling of high quality tissue samples are the foundation for:
- Meaningful biological and translational clinical research.
- Effective validation of technology and research results.
- Feasible implementation of validated biomarker assays into clinical oncology practice.
- For tumor acquisition at the time of diagnostic, image-guided biopsy.
The stereotactic tissue acquisition device (OP-Core device) was developed to facilitate tumor biopsy, improve user safety, and improve tumor sampling.
