Using Supertech with CR / DR Imaging Systems
Many people have called to ask if Supertech X-Ray Technique Calculator works with CR / DR imaging Systems.
The problem we are facing is determination of the Correction Factor. As you know, the Correction Factor is what calibrates the techniques to the performance of your X-ray equipment. Our Master Film is based in Optical Density. CR / DR work in Pixel Values.
It is very easy to say, “Convert the Optical Density based Master Film to Pixel Values and Supertech will work.”
The hard part is this: The pixel for CR / DR is not standardized. In print media such a books or newspapers, the pixel is a standardized value. It is a common assumption that the pixel in CR / DR is also standardized. Unfortunately that assumption is not correct. The CR / DR pixel not only varies from manufacturer to manufacturer of imaging equipment – it can vary within a manufacturer by model of equipment.
In other words, a GE pixel is not the same as a Phillips pixel is not the same as a Fuji pixel or Hologic pixel or Shimadzu pixel, etc. A GE Model XYZ can have a different pixel value than a GE Model ABC.
Supertech is simply not poised to make all the conversions that would be required to bring our product into the CR / DR world. We are waiting patiently for the CR / DR pixel to be a standardized value. At that point in time, we will do one conversion of our Master Film to the CR / DR pixel. Until that day, we are forced to say, “Supertech is not very easy to use with CR / DR.”
For those who are working in the Film/Screen world of imaging, Supertech is definitely the Technique Calculator of choice.
